Chelsey Tucker Art
I am so glad you stopped in! It is an honor to share both my heart and art with you today! My story as an artist has been a whirlwind of excitement. If I'm being honest, sometimes it still feels like a fairy tale!
I discovered my artistry in late 2017 after experiencing an episode of catastrophic visual loss in both of my eyes (Bi-lateral Optic Neuritis). I would later go on to be formally diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease called Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMOSD). The months that followed my vision loss were a very dark time for me, both literally and figuratively. I spent much of my time trying to recall the details of the little things in my life that I missed seeing the most.
It was during that time that I began asking my husband to describe the details of anything and everything around me. As he would describe the colors and textures, I would begin to visualize them in my mind. And as strange as it may sound, I was able to see again, but certainly not in the way that I had experienced the world before I lost my eyesight.
Nearly 8 weeks after losing my sight, I picked up a paintbrush and began to explore the world of acrylic painting. With no formal art training or artistic inclination prior to becoming visually impaired, I consider my artistry to be a divine gift. It is truly my honor and privilege to share it with you!
